Brazil is one of the most successful and celebrated footballing nations in the world. The country has hosted the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1950 and again in 2014. Brazil's love for the sport and rich history of producing world-class players make it a powerhouse on the international stage. However, while Brazil has left a massive mark on World Cup history, it did not host the very first tournament. That honor went to a neighboring South American country that took on the challenge of organizing the inaugural global competition. Brazil’s own World Cup hosting debut in 1950 ended in heartbreak with a loss in the final match, known as the 'Maracanazo.' Though a football legend, Brazil wasn’t first to host the Cup.
