The 1912 Summer Olympics were held in Stockholm, Sweden, and are considered one of the most well-organized early Olympic Games. Notable for innovations like electronic timing and the introduction of the decathlon and pentathlon, the 1912 Games also featured legendary athletes like Jim Thorpe. However, while significant, these were not the first modern Olympic Games. That distinction belongs to the 1896 Games in Athens, Greece, which marked the beginning of the modern Olympic movement. Stockholm helped refine the model, but the origin story starts in the 19th century.
